About the event
This online seminar explores the evolving securitization strategies of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and their disproportionate impact on Muslim minorities in China, with a particular focus on the Uyghur and often-overlooked Hui communities. While recent international attention has focused on the repressive policies in Xinjiang, this seminar aims to highlight how these policies reflect deeper patterns of ethnic differentiation within the broader Muslim population in China. By placing current developments within
a historical context, the seminar will discuss how state-led surveillance and cultural suppression are making everyday life increasingly precarious, while also posing significant challenges for academic research. Additionally, the discussion will offer a broader perspective on topics such as modernization, Islamophobia, and academic freedom in the field of academic research.
